Bored

Today has been very very slow. I was pretty excited to see our bat-faced cuphea is blooming. I've missed it (see here for previous encounters with the fun little bugger). Also, my dad planted a creeping fig in the front, and it'd be way cool if it ended up covering a wall. I love vines. Anyway, I'm just wishing I had more to do.

Spitting

It rained today for like four minutes. It's a shame it didn't rain a smidge more, but the temperature dropped and was beautiful. So beautiful, in fact, that I went for a run. Awesome, right? Right.

Fan Blades

I don't know why, but palms are always so cool to me.

Baker on the Roof

All of these were taken on the roof. I was trying to get some good ones of the palo verdes in the neighborhood, but it didn't work very well. There were no Zacs harmed in the taking of these photographs.

Curly Q

We have two palm trees that are sprouting new growth for the season. They are the weirdest little guys, but super neat!

Green Sticks and Seed Pods

The seed pods [photo 1] are still a favorite. I also love this one I took a while ago {also photo 1}. On a separate note, the palo verde trees are kind of blooming, though I can't quite tell if they're on their way in or out of bloom. This year's bloom is obviously not nearly as dramatic as other years have been.

Take That

Dear Kendle,

I told you I wasn't a heartless egg smasher. As evidence of my claim, see the ugly dove babies. Also, enjoy my other artistic photos.

Love from,
Zac

Burned

Aren't the yellow tips on this palm weird? Apparently it's like a sunburn, and it can take years for the palm to either lose that limb or fix itself. It used to sit in our backyard under our giant mesquite tree in almost complete shade. Well, it got moved to the front yard and it got a little more sun. There you have it. Oh, and the weeping juniper. It's awful weepy. Extra weepy. Fingers crossed it'll make it, because they're cool plants!

Shades of... Brown

I don't really use sepia often, but the late-afternoon light complimented it so well that I really got into it. I think it adds some interest to the photographs. It definitely mixes up the color photos I've been taking ever since I got this camera. The reason I started taking color photos is because I think it's a greater challenge to get a really excellent photo in color. Whether that's true or not, these photos made me happy.

Rockin' the Ponytail

The ponytail palm is one bizarre but awesome plant. I really love them.

Niceness

Today was nice for several reasons. Taking photographs that I like always helps!

And We're Back

Today was not one of those weird introspection days, and I'm over my doom and gloom. Though the weather, apparently, is not (which is fine by me!).

Out West

The desert really is misunderstood by those who haven't ever lived in one... well, ours at least. You can find the most interesting things here. Even after 19 years, it all still amazes me. I think one reason I like it so much is because it is more linear and patterned, as opposed to a tree that has branches going every-which-way. And I do love places with real green vegetation and the randomness that those plants can sometimes bring, but I appreciate the architecture of desert plants as well. Less can really be so much more (although, that fourth picture definitely does not apply here, haha!).
