Filter Effects

I got a little shutter happy today. I was having a fun time trying out the sepia/black-and-white thing again. I'm particularly fond of the mouse trap one. Haha. In other news, that cactus from two days ago (Sunday the 14th)? Yeah, the wind blew a big chunk of it over. The insides are kind of neat though! And I found a little bird egg that had fallen onto our brick patio. I was sad for a minute or two. Then I got over it.

Springing Forward

I love this cactus. It's growing up against my house, and has gotten crazy tall in the last little while. You know that little overhang of the roof? The one that sticks out a foot or so from the wall? Well I feel really bad because the cactus is almost touching it! It won't have any room to grow! But I think it's one of those cacti that you can just chop off and put in the ground and it will grow! Fun, right?

And, I know what you're thinking - why does this kid take so many pictures of venidium? Well, firstly, because they're orange and happy. Secondly, because they're all types of easy to take fun pictures of. Lastly, because it's Spring Break and it epitomizes the excellence of care-free days and awesome weather! :)

And this post title is kind of referencing Daylight Savings Time. Thank heavens Arizona doesn't bother with that stuff. I still don't get it! Haha.

Lazy Saturday

Late afternoon sunlight. Fresh flowers. Bliss.

My dad has these ancestors that are Jewish, right? Well, Jewish people hang these little things call mezuzahs next to their doors. Inside are little passages from the Torah. The Jews kiss their hand and then touch the mezuzah when they walk into their home, that way they are always being reminded about God and the blessings in their lives. Well, my mom got these fancy mezuzahs for my dad for his birthday. We aren't Jewish. No sir. But we figure that it is fun to embrace our heritage, and to be more well rounded and knowledgable. We thought about putting the Title of Liberty in them to have more of a personal meaning, but didn't. At any rate, one hangs at the front (photo 3), and the other the back (photos 1 & 2). They are awesome.

Awakening

The yard is really in full swing right now. The sweet peas are making there way up. There are even two that have bloomed, but they weren't very exciting, so I didn't photograph them. Anyway, things are nice. It's a great distraction from the homework that is building up. Haha.

I finally found out that these fun little guys are called venidium. I like them a lot.

Open and Close

Okay, so I still don't know the name of these flowers, but I really really like them. They close up at night and reopen in the daytime. And my mom cut some and brought them in the house and put them in my nice, clean bathroom.

Opening

A new year? Already? That is so strange to me. Time only moves faster, even when we want it to stop forever. But here's to a year of new possibilities and seizing the day to do something fantastic.

Anyway, every winter we grow Iceland Poppies (photos 1 & 2). They are the funniest little flowers. They look all types of excellent, but after a day they drop all of their petals at the slightest dirty look or gentle sneeze somewhere in the vicinity. But they do make for a really neat photograph.

Oh, and everything is wet because the sprinklers and wind gave the surrounding flower beds a nice little spray.

Grow

I'm still loving the winter flowers that have been planted in the yard. They'll be really exciting in March. :)

Long Lost Friend

Dear Winter,
I'm glad that you're fast approaching. I like you. Your grass is better. Your flowers are better. If only it were March, when everything was really in bloom. I look forward to this year's liaison.
